The March winds blew in a great day for the Chanute Expo 2003. The Expo was held on the campus of Neosho County Community College on Saturday, March 29th, in conjunction with the first annual Osa Johnson Safari Days. Twenty-two vendors from local business and industry participated in the event. The day also included fashion shows by Young America and 113 East and product demonstrations. Many in attendance enjoyed the Chamber Café and toured the NCCC campus during the college's open house.
Those participating in the Expo were Tyson Jelinck of Edward Jones Investments, Ash Grove Cement Company, Nu-Wa Industries, Powerlite Glass, Sean Stewart American Family Insurance, the Chanute Housing Authority, Fairchild's Custom Cleaning, The Kitchen Warehouse, Century Midwest Office Systems, Dick Powell's Nature's Living Systems, Pampered Chef, the Chanute Boy Scouts, Chanute Historical Society, Southeast Kansas Independent Living Resources, Tri-Valley Developmental Services, Inc., Stewart Furniture, Discovery Toys, Home Interiors, Malson Real Estate, Merle Norman Cosmetics, Healing Garden of Health and Cable One.
The Chamber also presented a booth displaying pictures of past events, brochures and two scrap books featuring photographs and news clippings from Chanute's 1950 Fall Festival celebration.
Several door prizes were give away including a neon American Flag, donated by Everbrite, which was won by Don Everly. Other door prizes were a three-month subscription donated by the Chanute Tribune, won by Pat Crowl, 2-$25 gift certificates to Four Seasons, won by Tosca Harris and Randy Kettler, and 2-$25 Chamber Gift Certificates (redeemable with participating Chamber businesses), which were won by Elaine Legitt and Lanny Cooper.
